PREMATURE EJACULATION

Premature ejaculation occurs when a man reaches orgasm and ejaculates too quickly and without control.  One out of five men experience lifelong premature ejaculation (in less than three minutes).  It is a very common condition but it can take a toll on self-esteem and relationships if left untreated.

CAUSES

LOW TESTOSTERONE

Testosterone controls much of a man's physical and sexual characteristics.  Low levels of testosterone can cause PE.

LOW CONFIDENCE

Unfortunately, existing negative self-image can cause PE, which in turn can create a cycle of low self-esteem and depression.

ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION

Anxiety about obtaining or maintaining an erection during sexual intercourse may lead some men to have less control over ejaculation.

MEDICAL CONDITIONS

Some existing medical conditions may have a role in PE such as diabetes, multiple sclerosis, prostate diseases and thyroid problems.

STRESS

Stress in everyday life or performance anxiety can result in PE.  Research has shown that there is a correlation between a man's state of mind and his ability to perform sexually.

PORNOGRAPHY

Some studies show that excessive porn watching and masturbation can result in developing the habit of climaxing quickly.

TREATMENT OPTIONS

TOPICAL ANESTHETICS

These are numbing agents to delay sensation to the penis, extending the time before ejaculation.  The agent should be applied and removed before intercourse.

ORAL MEDICATIONS

There are several prescription medications that we can use to help delay orgasm.  We can outline these for you and discuss and potential side effects, which are rare.

PE REHAB

Injectable medication is used to maintain an erection after ejaculation.  Over time, this removes the stress involved with ejaculation, allowing the patient to enjoy regular intercourse.
